Said works primarily in Mixed Media, currently based in United States.
I was born in Morelos de Ecatepec, Mexico, on September 15th, the eve of Mexican Independence Day. I crossed into the United States, at five years old without my parents, on a July 4th, in 1992. I didn't pick either date. I've spent most of my life since figuring out what to do with both of them.
I grew up undocumented, then not. Spanish first, then English, then somewhere in between fluent enough that neither side fully claims me and neither side fully has to. I went to a magnet art school in Virginia Beach and I've been making things with my hands, mostly without permission, ever since.
By trade I'm a web designer and brand strategist. Immibrand started in 2017 as a personal project, portraits of Latin icons, a way of putting something into a public conversation that mostly talked about people like me instead of to them. It's grown into a lot more since, but the original impulse hasn't moved.
Elsewhere on here, I go by Botas Meadas, a nickname my paternal grandfather baptized me with. Same hands, just a code switch.

About the Artist
Original art for open glass, metal, & concrete spaces.
There's a myth that self-taught means pure, and formal training means constrained. Both ignore the same fact: every artist inherits a history, whether they acknowledge it or not.
My art education was a privilege. I've unlearned as much as I've learned since. There's labor in seeing clearly again.
