I’m frustrated by what was really palette where I was mixing colors elsewhere. This painting is a transformation of usability to high visual and emotional value.
A deep red field holds two competing gestures: a bold yellow structure on the left, built from straight vertical and horizontal strokes into something between a flagpole and a cross, and a dripping gold-outlined square on the right, its edges bleeding downward into the canvas. Streaks of blue, teal, and black run through the lower half, loose and turbulent against the deliberateness of the yellow form above it.
